A: Hey, man. Do you see that tall blond guy who just entered the library?
B: Oh, yeah. Who's that? Do you know him?
A: Yes, I live in the same dorm with him. I just met him yesterday. He is an exchange student from America. Actually, he is very nice a person.
B: Really? Well, actually I'd like to make friends with a native English speaker very much in order to practise my English. Could you please introduce me to him?
A: Sure. Wait a moment! I'll call him!
A: Hey, Mike. What's up man? What wind brings you to the library?
C: Wow, you are Tom, aren't you? Nice to meet you again! I'm here to find some Chinese textbooks to prepare for the Chinese lessons.
A: Well, that's great. You surely study very hard. Hey, let me introduce my friend Jim to you! Jim, this is Mike. Mike, this is Jim!
C: Hey, Jim. Nice to meet you! How do you do?
B: Hello, Mike. Nice to meet you too! I'm fine, how are you?
C: I'm fine too, thank you!
B: Is it the first time you come to China? What are you going to study here as an exchange student?
C: Yes, it's my first time to China, and I like it very much. The Chinese people are really friendly and I have made a lot of friends. The purpose of me coming here is to study Chinese. I like the language very much. But it's really hard to learn.
B: I'm glad that you seem to have a great time in China. You are right, Chinese is really hard to learn, especially the different characters that you have to memorize them all in order to study it well.
A: Actually, Jim is doing a part time job of teaching the primary school students Chinese in the weekends. I'm sure he can offer some valuable advices to you to learn Chinese.
C: Really? That's great! Please give me some advices to learn Chinese.
B: Sure. First, you have to learn the pingyin well. And learn how to pronounce them correctly. Then, you can go to the characters. Actually many Chinese characters share a lot of parts in common. You should remember the parts first, and then it should be easier to memorize the characters.
C. Well, you are quite right. I'll follow your advices. Any other suggestions?
B: Hmmm, it's also good for you to make some really good Chinese friends and practise Chinese with them everyday. If you don't mind, I can help you with Chinese but please help me with English as well.
C. Ah, sure. We got a deal! Let's do that!
A: Hey, let me join you two. I want to learn more English as well.
C: Sure. you are welcome to join us. By the way, the Chinese lesson is beginning soon. I gotta go. I'll call you guys later! See you around!
A: See you, Mike. Have fun with the Chinese lesson!
B: Goodbye, Mike. Looking forward to meeting you again!
