宾语从句
I know (that) he is a teacher. 我知道他是个老师。

He asked whether (if) Bill liked red. 他问彼尔是否喜欢红色。
(连词if或whether 这两个连词的意思是“是否”,用来引导一般疑问句意思或选择疑问句意思的宾语从句,口语中常用if,且不可省略。)

I didn’t know where he would go. 我不知道他要去哪。
(连接代词或连接副词,这类词引导特殊疑问句形式的宾语从句。)

状语从句
I learned to ride a bike when I was ten.
I’ll call you as soon as the meeting is over.
I didn’t go to bed until I finished my homework.
(通常由when, while, as, after, before, until, as soon as等引导。时间状语从句通常用一般现在时代替一般将来时。)

原因状语从句
--- Why were you late this morning?
--- Because I got up late.
(由because, since, as,引导。这三个词所表达的语气由because到as 逐渐减弱。其中,由why提出的问题必须用because来回答。)

The ground is wet, for/ because it rained last night.
(连词for在表示“因果”关系时也可以引导原因状语从句,并可以与because互换。)

目的状语从句

通常由so that引导。如:
She studies very hard so that she can go to a university.

她如此努力学习,是为了能上大学。

结果状语从句

通常由so…that, such(a)…that, so that 引导,表示事态结果。由so…that, such(a)…that等引导的结果状语从句经常含有“结果的程度”的意思;由so that引导的结果状语从句与so that引导的目的状语从句在形式上相同,要通过句子意思判断该状语从句是目的状语从句还是结果状语从句。

由so…(形容词或副词)that引导的结果状语从句:

Jim is so strong that he can lift the heavy box.

由such(a)…that引导的状语从句有三种情况:

such a +单数可数名词+that。如:

He is such a hard-working boy that he has always been top in his class.

such+复数可数名词+that。 如:

Bill and Tom are such good students that they never fail the exam.

such+不可数名词 +that。如:

Mr. Smith knows such little French that he can’t communicate with Frenchmen.

由so that引导的结果状语从句:如:

Steven won’t listen to me, so that you’d better talk to him.
